On 13 March 2020 the chief police officer in Greenland, Bjørn Tegner Bay, released a statement on the border closure and entries from Greenland with the following information:

The Danish Prime minister has announced that Denmark is closing its borders to the effect that a complete border control is introduced and only foreigners with worthy purposes for entry are allowed to enter.

Danish citizens (which also include Danish citizens in Greenland and Faroe Islands) are still allowed to enter into Denmark.

The closure of the border also applies to Greenland.

The Premier of Greenland, Kim Kielsen, has informed that the Government of Greenland fully supports the Danish prime minister’s decision to close the borders.

Air Greenland has informed the Greenlandic police that the airline intends to suspend passenger flights between Island and Greenland temporarily.

It is still uncertain how Air Iceland Connect and Norlandair will handle the border closure. In principle, landing is still possible, but only Danish citizens and foreigners with worthy purposes are allowed entry.

Tourism and the like are not worthy purposes for entry.

Cargo from Iceland and other countries can still be imported unrestricted.

Flights between Greenland, Denmark and the Faroe Islands are not affected, as they are flights within the Kingdom of Denmark.

The Greenlandic police has no further information on the border closure for now.

With regard to questions on how the airlines handle the border closure, the police refers to the relevant airlines.
