The Government of Greenland invites investors to tender for two large hydropower potentials and participate in a market dialogue as part of a tender process. The invitation was announced at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam recently.

The hydropower potentials are situated between Kangerlussuaq and Nuuk on the Southwest coast of Greenland and are the largest currently known and the most thoroughly investigated. The intention is to exploit these hydropower resources by establishing hydropower plants which shall produce climate friendly electricity to industry or commercial projects to be established in connection thereto.

The tender process is initiated with a market dialogue that will take place from September to November 2022. The purpose of the market dialogue is to create an informal dialogue with a broad range of potential investors to provide input for the final tender conditions.

The final tender conditions, including further description of the project, will be set out in an invitation to competitive dialogue and licensing procedure in Spring 2023. The invitation will also set a deadline for submitting prequalification applications to mid-2023.

During the period from mid-2023 to the beginning of 2024 the Greenland Government will conduct a competitive dialogue and licensing procedure with the prequalified candidates. At the beginning of 2024 the winner(s) will be announced.

The winner(s) will be granted an exclusive licence to exploit hydropower for production of electricity to be used for concrete industry or commercial projects (a commercial hydropower exploitation licence).

Further information on the project will be published on the following web site, where further information on the market dialogue etc. also is published: https://hydropower.gl/emner/tendering-and-licencing-procedure?sc_lang=en
